We can help you develop, implement and monitor an effective policy for the management
and control of Legionella.
The process begins with a risk assessment for your premises. The primary assessment
involves:
-
Identifying the hot and cold water storage and distribution systems
-
Documenting the systems layout
-
Identifying risk points for Legionella growth, such as pipes with low water throughput
and areas of water storage in the Legionella breeding temperature range
From this initial assessment we develop a written Legionella policy for your organisation
covering:
-
The risks you face in your premises
-
How your Legionella risks should be managed, including:
-
alterations to the water systems to reduce the risk of infection
-
monitoring systems for changes to your water storage and distribution pipework
-
Procedures and timetables for periodic flushing of pipework
-
Legionella sampling, testing and recording procedures
-
Response processes after a positive Legionella test result
-
Legionella disinfection and cleansing processes
-
Staff education and training on Legionella risk management
Then we help you implement your Legionella policy to successfully control the risk
of Legionella infection.
We can help you manage the risk of Legionella in your premises, including all the
tools necessary for safe and effective Legionella control.
We will train your nominated Legionella control personnel in Legionella management
so that they understand:
-
The importance of Legionella risk management
-
The implications for your organisation of a Legionella outbreak in your premises
-
How they can help protect your organisation from Legionella
|
In addition, we can:
-
Devise and document your Legionella control policy
-
Provide practical support in the implementation of your Legionella policy, such as
record-keeping, testing and sampling regimes and the maintenance of your water systems
-
Assist you in the regular review of your Legionella policy
-
Provide any necessary Legionella policy updates to reflect legal and technical advances
in Legionella control
-
Test your Legionella control systems periodically to ensure compliance with your Legionella
policy
If you are confident about Legionella management then we can simply provide technical
support whilst you maintain your own Legionella control systems.
But if you prefer us to take a hands-on approach we can provide a complete turn-key
solution to Legionella control.
If you need Legionella disinfection and cleaning then we can help.
We are qualified to undertake full chemical disinfection and physical cleaning of
water systems to remove Legionella.
Disinfection procedures typically involve:
-
Isolation: Infected areas of your water system will be
isolated when the Legionella infection is identified and on the day of disinfection
the entire water system will be out of use (with the exception of WCs) until disinfected.
-
Alternative supplies: Alternative water supplies are
made available on disinfection day (e.g. bottled for drinking and kitchen use). WCs
are not normally affected except during the actual chemical process, so antiseptic
scrubs and handwipes are provided for handwashing.
-
Disinfection: This will involve draining, cleaning (including
scraping and flushing) the cold water storage tanks and chemical flushing of the cold
and hot water pipework and hot water storage cylinders then refilling and flushing
the pipework and cylinders with clean water.
-
Reinstatement: Cold and hot water supplies are restarted
and your Legionella control regime resumes, e.g. flushing, flow and temperature testing
and water sampling etc. A full laboratory test sample is taken immediately after disinfection
and 1 month later and if these test results are satisfactory your normal laboratory
testing regime recommences.
