OUR TOP TIPS TO AVOID BLOCKED DRAINS
-
Cut out fats!
Avoid putting oils and fats down the kitchen sink or the toilet when cooking. No matter
how liquid it is in the pan, once it cools that fat is going to cling to the
sides of your drain and start a blockage.
-
Let the sink take the strain!
Put a strainer into the plug hole of your kitchen sink to stop food and other waste
from washing up from getting into your drain. Put one in your bath plughole too to
stop hair. And when the strainer is blocked, put the contents in the bin, don't flush
them down the drain!

-
Don't put down roots!
Avoid putting trees, shrubs and plants near drains - they send out roots in search
of water and nutrients in the soil and your drains are an easy source of water.
Roots will work their way into joints and weaknesses in the drain quicker than you
can say 'Alan Titchmarsh'!
-
Don't wash your dirty laundry (too much)!
Don't overfill your washing machine with soap powder - undissolved soap sticks
to drain pipes like chewing gum to shoe leather. Better still, switch to a liquid
or gel instead if you can.
